2011. It's time to move on. It's time to move forward. I really don't know what happened to 2010. Lots of parenting. Lots of facebook games. I'll be honest. I was anemic and felt tired a lot and slept a lot. I worked some and parented a lot. I mentioned that, didn't I?
Well the parenting continues, and the facebook games are going to diminish and my word for the year is ASPIRE.

It's time. It's time to reach out and grasp the dreams and the goal and work. Work hard - because not working hard isn't getting it done. So I aspire. Watch for it!

The Beader's Muse

Here are some pictures from the Beader's Muse contest. It was a challenge to do things the way I wanted to get it and the chain part I really didn't get. It doesn't hang the way I want it to hang.
I imagine that I will be able to wear it occasionally. It is an interesting piece. The muse was very cool to work with and I am definitely curious to see what other people came up with. I used a lot of beads from my own stash because they were the right colours and I enjoyed fishing through for the right bits and beads.
Now to pass the photo's on to Scarlett. The entry is tonight and in the next little while we will get to see what the muse was.

New Ideas

It amazes me that at a time when I have time, when I am not busy, I have misplaced my need to bead. I have ideas, I have beads, I have no will to pick up the needle. And it just kind of fizzles.
So in an effort to keep thing moving, and to maybe spark a creative desire, I tried my hand at snow dieing. This was fun! It helped that we had snow! I live in Ottawa for crying out loud! It's supposed to be the snowest capital in the world and we haven't recieved much snow this year at all!!
Here are some pictures of the whole event. I did not have procion dyes, just ones from Rit, so the colours are not as vibrant.

I'm trying another new idea for the Beaded Journal Project. If it works, I'll post, if it doesn't, if it fizzles, then I'll try something else.
I wonder where the muse goes, when she takes a trip?

First off, I want to mention that Use the Muse IV at Use the Muse is up and the beads are beautiful! I have entered this year and I am very excited to participate, as this is the first time for me! Feb 25th is the last pre-order date! It's also the last day to get the pre-order price!
The beads are beautiful and I'm looking forward to seeing the muse too! I love these colours too so I think I'm in a good position here! I can't wait to play!

Beading For a Cure is up and running and I have a project in it. I was given the beads at the last minute and the ideas just flew!
I love the birds and really wanted to use the beads to show them off. I can see these birds hanging in a sunny location.

Beading Updates

A Birthday present for a friend. She turns 21 and she sent me pictures of floating bead necklaces that she wanted to learn to make, but we never got to it. I hope she likes her birthday present. I feel safe to post this, cause I don't think she comes on this blog!

Here is my BJP. I took out the boring white, it was boring for me anyway! I wanted to have some colour! So I went flipping through the magazines and found this colour palette eyeshadow for the spring and pulled out beads that are those colours. It may raise a few eyebrows to see pink and an even bigger surprize to find out that I had it in my stash but it's not a bright pink or a bubble gum pink, it's softer and I think I can do a bit of it. Consider my boundries stretched!

My new project.
I'm having a tough time with that bird. It doesn't sing at all and it doesn't call to me but this piece of labradorite sure does! I find that it responds well to greens and dusty rose. I don't know what else I'm going to do, but here is a hint of things to come and I did go and by some beads that are labradorite too. They are gorgeous faceted beads - bigger than and 8, smaller than a 6. They have the most incredible flash! More blue than this stone, I might add.

I am so hoping that this project gets my muse back in it's mojo because I do want to do birds for the beaded journal project and they just aren't flying!!! I am thinking about changing the type of bird and the colours I started with aren't that great.
I've also decided that I do not like beaded words. Really. I don't like the look of it. So I'm probably going to rip it out and find another way to add words.

Oh and I am loving this new camera! Doesn't it take great pictures! I have a bunch to learn about it, but it's very forgiving.

I had some fun doodling today and playing with a pen. I was blog hopping when I found this blog - http://valentinaramos.blogspot.com/ . Now I do not take credit for the right hand side of the blog, as I was following the same look as Valentina. The left hand side of the page I did do, it's a doodle that I have been playing with for years, like multiple decade years! And I have fun doing it, it's mindless and yet soothing. I've seen it in quilting of course, and wonder if there is a childhood memory lurking somewhere!
Another thing I've been doing is listening to Rice's podcasts. I just love her podcasts because she asks the right questions, questions that I would want to hear the answer to and sometimes I don't even realize I wanted to ask that question until she asks it!! Go to http://voodoonotes.blogspot.com/ and look on the right hand side for links to her podcasts. I also upload them on to my ipod and listen to her at the gym. It's good to learn and work out at the same time!

Hey!!!! Happy New Year Everyone!
Guess what my most wonderful husband got me for Christmas!!! Yup! A new camera!!! And not just any camera - it's a camera that a) I can use; b) can take pictures of beads and c) is sexy sweet!!!
So I went to That Bead Lady in Newmarket (Ontario) and shopped for beads at discount prices!!!! Here are a few pictures of some of the beads I got! Check out the new cubes - aren't they cute? I'm going to enjoy some wonderful herringbone with those!
My goal for 2010 is to learn how to learn how to use my camera and you all get to benefit from that!!! I'm going to have so much fun playing with this camera, reshooting some old beadwork and posting it on my blog!

Mary over at serious beader showed this and I thought I would play. I thought it would be fun to play with it too!

I have been beading, only I can't seem to find my daughter's camera to take pictures. I think I need a camera of my own, that would be easier for me. Then when I want to take pictures, I'm not searching for my daughter's camera - which at any given time, can be in a dozen places in the house.

One of the other things I've done, is to do some chain mail! That is too cool! Thanks to Marilyn Gardiner, I have now gotten my coins on a bracelet! I'll take a picture of it soon too, I promise. My friend and I met up with her at the Ottawa Glass Bead Artists show here in town last weekend and I chose a kit, and she showed me some tips and I finished it last week!

I've also been playing with Herringbone, thanks to Jean Power's blog - I am loving this! Scroll down to her red herrringbone rope necklaces. This blog is very inspiring!

Inspired by Autumn

This necklace is my attempt to try and capture the beautiful colours of fall that I enjoy every fall here in Ottawa. It’s amazing really, but Ottawa is one of the best places to see the full gamett of autumn colours. Those spicy reds, yellows and oranges are framed with the stable greens and browns that capture me every fall. I love those warm russets and bright reds. So I tried to capture it here. I am sitting on the tree branches with this one, so let me know what you think. I can see me wearing it with black or perhaps the orange sweaters I have.

Hey, Time for the blog!

Would you believe me if I told you that I have been beading, only I managed in my infinite rush to put my beading in the hands of those who needed, requested or were the receiver that I did not take any pictures? Curses!!!

I bead embroidered a dolphin for a friend who is being operated on for breast cancer. I wanted to provide her with a smile and I think I did that. It is a fully beaded teeny beanie baby that came out from McD's just recently and I started beading it in light blue, crystal white and clear beads before I became aware that light blue/turquoise was her favourite colour. Good luck? Serendipity? Knowledge tucked in the back of my brain? Who knows why it was this way, but then who knows why we work so mysteriously sometimes? She loves the dolphin and my prayers, happy thoughts and healing vibes all go with her next week.

Then I beaded two herringbone bracelets. They were for a bride and a groom. Both herringbone, but very different. As a matter of fact, if you weren't a beader, or you didn't recognize the versatility of herringbone, you wouldn't know they were from the same stitch. This, my daughter pointed out to the happy couple was a good metaphor for their lives together - how they could be so different, and yet the same. Cool eh? There is hope for pictures!

And then I beaded a pair of earrings for my sister - the mother of the bride. She loves that I can do this and loves going to the bead store to pick beads and then says things like - Can you do that?
The earrings were perfect for her dress and she looked wonderful!

I am inspired by two trees in the neighborhood that have started to turn colours and I am beading a bracelet in those fall colours. Pictures to come soon!!

Goddess Pages Update

Here are 7 of 8 Goddess pages. The eighth is in the works, it just needs it’s border before it can be photographed. Then I’ll be able to add them to the BJP website. My daughter took the pictures outside in the garden – she had an eye for picture taking and it only gets better with practice.

I haven’t decided if I’m going to do this again in 2010. I haven’t got an idea for a theme or a inspiration yet. I would really like to display last years pages and the idea for that just isn’t happening, probably cause it’s kinda boring bead work. So I might find another way to display them!

Hi everyone! It's way past time for some pictures and some beaded journal updates. I am behind, I do know that but I'm getting back on track and that is a good thing! I want to introduce you to three pages, can't remember which ones I've posted lately, I probably could have scrolled through to see but I'm posting anyway.

This is Amaterasu and she is all about Beauty and the Sun. She helps crops grow. The green is a rice paddy.

This is Damara and she guides and helps children. Can you see the baby's face? Click on it to make it bigger, and you might just see. And yes for all those who know how not fond of pick I am, I did use it - Damara called for it!

Pele is Divine Passion and hearts true desire. She is a volcano. Those are crystals at the top which made them hard to photograph.

I used my daughter's camera and I thought I could get better pictures but I don't actually know the settings very well so I think I'll either have to learn or I'll go back to the other camera.

Holding Pattern

I haven't been very creative lately. I feel like a plane that is circling, waiting rather impatiently and hoping that I can land before I run out of fuel. That fuel is patience. Every fiber in me knows I have to be patient and yet ready to act if all things go well. If they don't, I need to be pragmatic and move forward in another direction.
So that's what I am doing and it's not easy since I'm a move forward, take action kind of person. I think this is the hardest thing for me to do and I'm trying really hard to be cognizant of the lessons I'm being shown!!

Bring it on, I'm ready!!

Towards 2020

Hi all,
I've just finished the conference. There is nothing quite like being the hostess to 400 people from across the country. It truly was a huge, exhausting gift.
So, no bead work, not mixed media art. Just the art of doing a job well and enjoying the presence of so many people whose lives have been focused on making the lives of children and youth better in Canada.
I'm over-absorbed.
I'm so very sleepy.
I'm exhilarated.

In other news. I've been volunteering for the conference Towards 2020 Canada's commitment to children and youth. This has been a great opportunity for me to be involved with some wonderful people to create a conference that brings together people whose focus is on the future of our country from an important perspective. I am really looking forward to the day of the conference because the plan is to create a new future for our children that involves them and helps them to be the best people they can be. I also sewed together a quilt. See, I have all this material and I wanted to actually enjoy it. So I pulled out the oranges and orange alikes, and I all the teal blues, blues and such and cut up the squares.

It's not finished - I want to back it with some flannel and no stuffing. So I cut the flannel but I didn't measure twice - arghhhh!!! I have more work to do!

Here are the pictures though, and more will be forthcoming when I finish it. Here's a hint, think spring green rickrack.

I will have some beading to show you in the next few days too. My darling husband will be back from Australia tonight! I wonder how jetlaged he'll be after a 2o odd hour flight!

My new, ambitious but ever so interesting project

Hi Everyone!! Oh, my this picture situation has taken on a life of it's own! I don't quite know what's new with Blogger, but it's duplicated somethings and won't let me delete others!
So, having said that, let's get on with the show!
Here is my new project! I have decided to build myself a tree. I had been collecting wire for a while and had purchased a scrap piece of copper. My dear husband had brought home wire for me also. It was all in my art room waiting for me. Then I saw this http://speediebeadie.blogspot.com/2009/01/ice-things.html . Dot is an amazing bead artist and she got my juices flowing. I went down to my art room and got out the wire.

I started bending and twirling and before I knew it, I was making a tree!

Then I wanted branches and so I got out more wire.

After I felt like I had enough branches, I started wrapping it in polyfill. The material in the background I dyed for the tree.

Here it is, all wrapped up and tied with string. I did change this picture in the right direction but blogger or picasa switched it back. Sorry about that.
Here is the tree wrapped in felt. Next is the material. Watch for more progress shots of the tree, I've ordered the beads - that was neat! I'll show you to them as they come in!

This is my oldest daughter, smirking at me. It seemed to stick to blogger too.

My Goddess Pages are up to date

This is Amaterasu. She is about beauty and light. She looked into a mirror and saw her true beauty. The green on the bottom represents the rice paddies. Amaterasu had hidden in a cave but the rice paddies missed her light so the other Goddess's gathered around to get her to come back out.

This is Rhiannon. She represents manifesting your clear intentions into reality. She is in a forest and she sometimes rides a white horse or transforms into one.
Truth be told, I don't think I did that great a job with her, but I left her the way she is.

This is all 4 pages to date. I've just started on Jan. I promise myself that as long as I start the page in the month that it is for, I'm doing alright. Now that I have finished 4 of them, I feel like I've got this project under control. I am still debating whether I should finish the edges of the 3 pages I've just done. It really does seem to make a difference, doesn't it?

Here is a picture of my family ring that my husband and children presented to me at the Rain Forest Cafe when we were at Animal Kingdom. It is a beautiful channel set ring with two saphires, an emerald, a diamond and an aquamarine. I was very surprized!! It's so perfect for me!

Here is a picture of my December page for the Beaded Journal Project. It is the Goddess Sedna, and it is to represent the ocean. I did really well in my oceanography course and wanted to celebrate it. Sedna actually has whales and dolphins coming out of her fingers but I didn't have whale and dolphin beads. She also had seaweed hair in another depiction, so I decided to focus on that.

Inaugration Day

I just wanted to mark this day on my blog, because as I listened to President Obama give his inaugural speech, I was given a gift of hope, I was given a chance to embrace my global community and given a reminder to rise to the challenge of being the best person I could be.
I am in a position of flux because I have finished school and I am looking for my place in employment. His empowering speech was an opportunity to reflect on where I can take my education and what I can do to become the best person I can be.

A Few Pictures of our Holiday

Hi!

Here are a few pictures of our holiday’s. Haley, my middle daughter got a new camera for Christmas. She was in picture mode – taking over 2000 pictures! Needless to say, many of them are the same, similar or just plain weird.

Here we are, getting ready for out airboat ride. We had a great time here, taking the boat out to a fresh water lake and river to see the alligators and the birds. We also had a chance to see a cypress bayou with orchid buds growing in the trees. The spanish moss is amazing!

The alligators were so calm in their natural environment.

We had a wonderful dinner at the Rainforest Cafe. The family surprized me with a wonderful gift to celebrate my completion of university! They made me a card and Drew gave me a family ring. It’s absolutely beautiful! I’m a very fortunate woman!

I’ll show you a picture of it when it gets back from the store – where it’s being sized right now. My family stones are emerald, two blue sapphires, a diamond and a blue topaz. It makes for a very beautiful ring!

Happy New Year!

Hi Everyone!
I'm back!!
I finished school!!! I am so happy to have finished after 8 years. My final term was amazing and I really enjoyed the classes I took. I am going to look for work now. Well, now that I am finished it's time!
I will go to convocation in June with my family and have a party I think, to thank everyone who was so supportive during the long process!
For now, as I look for work, and care for my family, I am going to get some beadwork completed and start a bead project that has been brewing. Stay in touch for that.
I was away for the holidays. We all went to Florida - to Disney and Universal Studios. We played hard and my middle daughter - Haley, took a ton of pictures. I'll post some in the next few days.

Homework. Schoolwork. All the time.
Well okay, I still make dinner, still shop for groceries, still drink a glass of red wine in the evenings, but really, I am reading, writing and thinking. A lot.
That's all good! I love being in school full time actually and I love making the connections between one class and the other. Because I've been doing an interdisciplinary program, I find that there are connections in different fields and I enjoy that. And I enjoy learning. What am I studying this term you ask?
Oceanography, Sociology of Popular Culture, Children in Conflict and Research and Writing in an Academic Setting.
Can you guess which one I like the most? Go ahead, guess!!!

I should be working on an assignment, but I'm doing this meme instead!

Okay...so 7 unknown facts about me...then tag 7 friend/bloggers I'd like to know more about and link to them all....that's a toughie since I've seen this meme all over and most of my tagees have already been tagged by others!
But here goes....

I have been watching General Hospital for about 30 odd years. I even remember Luke and Laura's wedding!

I am allergic to water. I break out into hives when I shower, go swimming, or sweat too much. It actually means that I am indeed allergic to hard work!

I sleep better when there is a stash of chocolate in the house. I can go weeks without eating it but when I want it, it better be there!

I actually want to do my Masters. I know, I can hear you - crazzzzy!!!!

While almost everyone who knows me knows I don't like pink, I actually don't mind dusty rose, or ummm, well dusty rose.

I graduated high school and college and never went to the graduation ceremonies.

Sooner than I thought...

Hey all! I took a picture of my September page. Sarasvati is finished. I thought I had a mini book for her but it seems to have been misplaced. If or when I find it, I'll add it to the page. The charm is a swan, the flower she is surrounded by is a lotus.
She is made with 15's, as is the flower petals. I really enjoyed her. Oh and her lyre. I weaved it with 15's in square stitch. that was cool, I had never done that before.

Meet Henry.
He is a mascot for Christmas Prescence. Christmas Prescence is a store I work in that opens this weekend and goes until the first of the new year. I am celebrating working there for 10 years!
So Henry is our mascot and he needed his own tree, with some decorations. He has a friend in the chicken.
I did peyote around his neck and made the tree out of peyote too. I made the water and the island out of bead embroidery. He is going to be a gift to the store. I glued the base to a piece of styrofoam that is wrapped with gold ribbon.

Henry is my little side project. He himself is an ornament. I look forward to him being part of Christmas Prescence this year. I can't wait to see the reaction of a certain, specific person who I work with!

Sorry this is sideways, I thought I had rotated it, but it didn't show up that way now. This is my cat Sherri. She sleeps anywhere! This shelf is our homework shelf, where we keep homework papers and find books and such that are important. I think it's funny that she curls up there, it's plastic and her little paw kept slipping, she'd pull it up and then it would slip again. How can a cat sleep when her paw is moving like that!

I want to say thank-you so much!!! What a great gift! I think the little packages are 15 delica's and hex's! This is amazing!!! She also sent me some gorgeous triangles, which are some of my favourite beads!! The faces are wonderful and I needed some needles, so that was awesome, along with the thread!
There is also an absolutely wonderful, adorable fairy girl. The camera battery ran out so I don't have a picture. She is gorgeous and she is on my mantle right now.
My suprize birthday bead buddy said that she reads my blog so I want her to know, that I couldn't read her signature and don't know who she is.

I've always wanted to do a Give Away!

So what does your bead table look like? It is messy? Has it got too many beads on it? Has it got vellux? Is it fancy or simple like mine - a t.v. tray in the family room with my beads in a chest and also downstairs in my art room.

What's wrong with the word "Artist"

Hi Everyone,
Here are a few things that have been on my mind.

The other day I was watching Ellen and she had Usher as a guest. I guess they are good friends. Anyway, she asked him to draw a picture of his new baby. He took the pen and paper and then commented that he would try but he wasn't much of an artist!
~~~Hello?
Usher? Not an artist? The man dances, and sings and writes music and choreographes but for some reason, he doesn't think of himself as an artist!
What is wrong with this word? It amazes me how often I hear or read this from people. Artistic ability isn't just about being able to draw, it's about being creative on all kinds of different levels!
After he drew the picture, Usher got up to dance. That man can sure dance! What an amazing artist!!!!

On another note.

I would like to apologize to another artist and blogger. I recieved some comments under her name and thought that she had made them. They were comments that said that she thought my work wasn't beautiful. This was strange and I jumped to the wrong conclusions. Apparently this was actually SPAM!!!! I had no idea that it came in this form! I would like to sincerely apologize to cramzy for jumping to the wrong conclusion. If you ever recieve comments that seem strange or unusual, then perhaps it's spam. I had no idea.

And, if you were thinking that my pictures seemed a little blue, it turns out that one of the members of my family was fooling around with the camera and changed a lighting setting and everything is a little blue. Things look better now and upcoming pictures won't have the blue look.

Okay, this picture. I try really hard not to use grocery bags and to bring my own. I've done it for years, long before the big push. But one thing that niggled me was that I always use the plastic bags for fruits and veggies. Then I was sent a video about plastic and it's affect on the environment and animals and I finally acted. I made this smaller bags specifically for fruits and veggies. They may indeed weigh more than the plastic ones, but I feel a heck of a lot better for using them! I want to stamp veggies and fruits on them, but I'll do that with the girls.

Beaded Journal Project and my new project

Here is my new project. A very long time ago I made a similiar picture and was all set to bead it when I found out through the wonderful people at Quilty Pleasures here in Ottawa, that I had used to wrong iron on stuff. It sat in my art room for way too long until I finally took the scissors to it and cut it up.
Then I created a new one with Steam a Seam and now I am beading it. I have mostly just started and I don't like the free motion sewing up on the blue part because it didn't turn out very well. My machine doesn't drop it's feed dogs, so I used the feed dog cover, which really doesn't work very well.
I've started beading the green seaweed and I'm working on the orange/coral beading. It is very relaxing and fun.

Here is the start of my BJP. The Goddess is Sarasvati. It isn't finished and I've got lots to do but the shape is fun and the colours are soft. I am really looking forward to this years BJP!

It's a list from the Guardian paper in the UK, and seems to be a slightly edited version of that provided by the Big Read at the BBC. “The Big Read reckons that the average adult has only read 6 of the top 100 books they’ve printed.”

I'm trying again

I had this all lined up nice, written well, then went and lost it. How often do I do that? Arghhh, much too often.

Anyway, here are my messy piles of works in progress! It's fun sometimes to take these pictures and see what you've done with your work, can you tell I've been flitting from one project to another?
The BFAC ball is there, the beave, and the other BFP. I see Nanabush and I see some odd beads that really should be running home by now.

Here is my Canadian Beaver. This BFP is month April. Thanks to That Bad Liz - I love the Moose and the Dragon and her style and wanted to try it. Of course, I have to do the edges of course. I really like the beaver! He's cool! He looked like a groundhog until I put his tail on, it's amazing how similiar those animals look. I used a piece of leather for the tail.

I finally picked up some Grunge board. I'm going to see if I can bead it. You can't see it here, cause it's down in the art room but I was so excited to finally get my hand on some!

I am almost finished my May page too. It's been very intuitive and I'm just at the stage where I need to stare at it and see if there is something else I want to add to it.

Then my March page. It's got the outline beaded and I hope to finish it this weekend. I have to, have to, HAVE TO!!!! finish my BFAC first!

Beading For A Cure!
I was inspired by some children's toys. My daughter won them for me at her local school fun fair fish pond so I opened them up, took out the foam, cleaned and dyed them and then stuffed them with new polyfill. Oh and then the fun began! I outlined the edges and then filled in each side!

Oh this was fun and it's not finished!!! I want to make three if I can get enough beads and thanks to some wonderful amazing women at All About Beads, there are some in the mail to me.
If it's not three, sitting nicely in a bowl to be played with, it could be two - like fuzzy dice hanging from a rear-view mirror!

I hope to make each side different and I added the yellow/lime beads as my extra bead.
I'm still beading my BJP and there will be pictures soon. I just got inspired by the BFAC beaded juggling balls and there is a deadline!

In other news, I'm not working. It didn't work out so I'm looking for work again. That means more time for beading!

Her name is Rae! She is a North American Traveller who made her way back home to me! I'm so happy to see her after so many years. She's got some amazing features to her and I'm still trying to decide if I want to add beads or just leave her!

This is my beach vessel! It was fun to make! I want to thank Bobbi over atBeading At the Beach. I have another one in the works, but I am being side tracked by my BJP, which I'm behind in.

I started a new job!! I'm working at Beddingtons Bed and Bath and believe me, I have a few things to learn about bedding and towels and such but it's a great place and elegant feel to it and I'm so enjoying the atmosphere and the staff I've met so far! Oh and one of them is a quilter so you can bet I'll be talking up a storm with her!

Picking Up The Pieces
She has puzzle pieces missing! But she found one, and I think that's all I'm going to add otherwise, it's going to look funny. The puzzle piece has boucle stitching on both sides and is quite tactile. The doll itself is only beaded on one side, and that works for me, cause she's hanging up on the wall. I did back her with another piece of material to cover and protect the stitching though.
I like how she turned out and I like how she is looking down at the piece. I really enjoyed working with the yellow - just what I needed as I watch the snow melt outside. It was a fun project. Hope you enjoy her!

In which the Beaded Art Doll Women Inspire Me!

I joined Beaded Art Dolls on yahoo. What an amazing, creative group of women! The latest challenge was to use a flat puzzle shape and bead it a specific colour. Everyone had two choices, they could do yellow plus 10% of a contrasting colour or be randomly assigned a colour. My random colour was red but I've done red, so I went back to the yellow.
What you see here is my tray, with most of my yellow beads, and my beady doll. She's called Picking Up The Pieces, because, as you can see, she's missing a few. They will be beaded and dangling from her arms when this is done.
It's been fun! And relaxing as I continue to work on my thesis.

Take It Further Challenge

This is February's Take it Further Challenge. I haven't done much at all in the way of beading but still want to do this challenge in the form of tags. The February theme was what do I remember. I remember drawing bubble letters and colouring them in. It was a fun and simple project. I want to add some pom poms on ribbon to this and cover the back stitching but I decided to get it up here first cause it's been so long since I put anything on the blog.
The Take it Further challenge for March is to pay attention to the little things. I'll be thinking about that. I want to at least start it in March, and I want to start March's Beaded Journal Project too but I've been concentrating on my paper for school so we'll see how it goes.

So 7 things about me that are weird. Hmmmm.... Perhaps I should get some of my friends to write this instead as I'm sure they could come up with a few things.

1. I'm known as the trouble maker. I can definitely design michief. Or maybe it's that I like to laugh. And I will say things to encourage others to laugh. Just to get that look of boredom of their face.

2. I love my bed. I love being horizontal. No smirking here!! I could lie for hours reading in bed. And I don't have to get up to pee before I do it. I can even drink coffee and not get up to pee. Being horizontal is awesome!

3.I like to eat cherry pie filling on plain biscuits. Or even just from the can. Enough said?

4. I've been watching General Hospital since I was like 12. Is that really 30years? Oh man!

5. I like a 20 minute nap. I really like a 20 minute nap.

6. I like to blow my breath into the belly of my cat and make her fur all warm. She hasn't figured out if she likes it or not. My male cat doesn't like it at all. But he does like to sit on the furnace vent and have the hot hair blow up his butt. He is too funny.

7. Hmm. I love the smell of the air caught between my screen door and the regular door. I like this smell when it's been all warmed up by the sun. It reminds me of when I was a kid.

Since I've seen this all over, I don't feel compelled to tag people. It's too funny to ready how interesting we really are and what turns our cranks!

BJP Project update

This is the finished Paisley page.

Here are two close photos of the felted and beaded page. This was fun. I enjoyed playing witht the colour of the felt and the texture that the beads added. I also tried to learn more about perspective and laying out a landscape. Still new at this and still trying out new ideas.

I have to confess, I had this finished in February because I had a craving for colour. I beaded this coloured flag and it was fun and bright and vibrant. The little lizard dude is actually from the Dominican Republic from a trip a few years ago and made its way onto the page quite nicely.
The flower is actually a felt ball cut in half and then beaded. I then sewed it onto the page. It actually has quite a bit of dimension and works well with the lizard dude cause they both are quite big. This page speaks volumes about my need for the sun!

I am trying to find a way to put it all together to make a necklace that is pretty and fun and tactile!
I am not having as much luck as I struggle to decide which stitch, which design, which layout.
I love pearls and amber together. Then I found this piece of shell and put it together as a pendant to anchor the amber and the pearls but still no idea what to do with all those beads!!!
Suggestions would be a great idea.

Update on Beaded Art Journal

Hi!
Here's the update on the Beaded Journal Project. I've started to put the final touches on them and I hope to take more pictures to show the differences. Some of the differences may be subtle though.

December's page is related to all the snow that we got in December. There were so many beautiful days and there were times when we caught the snow flakes and had a chance to look at them up close!

January is definitely a work in progress. I've actually finished it but I haven't taken any pictures yet. I felted the whole thing and then beaded it. I'd like to credit Kelly from bead art for helping me follow this and for her pointing to Jo Wood
On this picture, I attempted to teach myself perspective and how to make things seem closer and further. More pictures on this soon.

This is the box - a cigar box that I am keeping all the squares in. Think it's time to decorate it!!!

August. It's not finished. Those green lines? Corn.
When we travelled this summer, we saw so much corn and we participated in a gps explorer travel hunt and Kokopelli was the little dude icon/label for the hunt. It was so much fun!

September is circles. I was practicing technique. I beaded over cording with the orange beads and the made circles out of peyote.

Need I say anything? It's the colour of fall. It's the texture of fall. These leaves aren't sequins, I had to punch holes in them. The material is so amazing, I didn't want to hide it! I don't actually like the amount of blank space though. It doesn't seem balanced. Suggestions?

November was playing with paisleys. I love paisleys! I found this cardboard template stuff at the scrapbooking store and bought them to trace around and it was still harder to do then I like. I want to work at this. I have to say that finished project isn't too bad.
One of the things I did was couch cording down on the material.

I am trying to incorporate different techniques that I haven't tried in these pages and I really think that it's a great way to expand my horizons. There's always a comfort zone with our art, it's nice to push it once in awhile.

I'm trying again!

The Blogger failed me the other day when I had a huge and cool blog ready to be posted. I'm ready to try again!
I want to show you something. I have been reading In a Minute Ago for the longest time and I'm inspired by the The Take It Further Challenge. Sharon B is an amazing artist and I love her work. The texture screams off the computer screen, I can only imagine what it is like in person! So I was thinking of this challenge but it was when I saw what Bobbi did, that I realized that I really wanted to play along with the challenge. I'm not an official member but I am playing anyway.
Bobbi posted her piece on herBeading AT The Beach Blog.

I decided on a tag shape. I love that shape, have used it for a long time in mixed media and thought this would work for the challenge. Here are the two pictures. I've since done more work on it and will post finished pictures too.

Here is one side of it. The theme this month was who inspires you and lots of people do so I created something that reminded me of several people. the main material is from my couch which I made new cushion covers for so I had the material there. I was impressed with myself for doing this job - I pushed my boundaries with it so I've inspired myself. Then I added the paisley for a friend of my - Lorna, who constantly inspires me. The seahorse is from Laurel Burch's collection. She was an amazing woman, and I wish I had of know more about her before she died.
The tag has fibers and beads on it on this side, which aren't in the picture.

On this side, we have a picture that was created byCarol. She is a Mom and a beader and she gave everyone this picture when she hosted the brooch faces swap. I admire her - she works hard at her art. I put mica on it - courtsey of Art Chix when I went there on a trip to BC last year. It was the first time I used the mica and it really does sew easily!
The strip of white satin is from Lexi. She is a member of the Hannah Grey Yahoo group and was my secret santa. I admire her and her art very much. She lives in Bermuda and doesn't have a lot of art stores, but still manages to do some beautiful work. Turns out I was her Santa too and it was fun sending her parcels for Christmas too.
The Charms are from a charm swap I did with Amber Dawn.I had been saving these charms for something special and I am inspired by so many women who participate in swaps and exhanges!
You know, it isn't just the women who made these charms, but so many other artists out there who are willing to swap. I love doing that and I love seeing and collecting from people around the world. One of the bonuses of globalization, I guess.
There are beads on the front which aren't in the picture - to honour my many bead friends!!
I also included a felt ball - one of my daughters made this one, they were all making them one night and I don't know who made this one but they all inspire me constantly and talk to me about my art, and there so this one little felt balls says so much!So that is my tag for the month of January. I'm going to make tags for each month and It's just great to create a series. I was surprized by how much I've enjoyed the Beaded Art Project and when it ends in the spring, I'll have this one to keep me going.
Next up, the Beaded Journal Project squares that you haven't seen. I've mostly kept up and I'll post them next.

Can you say busy!!! Working, school, Kid's stuff, shopping, and the odd cuddle from any number of children!

Hi All!
These are the final pictures from my BFAC project. I don't think I ever posted them. The project got shipped off ages ago!
Now I'm doing some things, I made a necklace and matching earrings for a friend but I didn't take a picture. I also am working on a secret santa project that one of my daughters friends said was too tacky. So now I'm re thinking it!!! Argh, I may have to make something else!! I think it's kitchy and she doesn't know the difference so she couldn't really say but if I give it to this woman, I don't want her to think it's tacky. I'm rethinking it!!!

So much happening at this time of year!!! Want some pictures? I'll try and find some! We broke the hinges on the laptop, so it became a desk top. The laptop that still functions doesn't have any pictures on it at all!!! And, I couldn't seem to get on my blog with it, so instead of sitting on the couch, blogging and relaxing, I have to sit at the desk. Picture it.

beaded Face Swap

Here are the earrrings that I had ever such a hard time with. Tension issues and stringing material issues and delica size issues!!!! It took days to do these!!!!! Hard to believe eh? Well, they are done and I'm not that fond of them because though they look good on a wine glass, they swing too much on the ear. They would be better off with the crystals at the bottom and a short thingy from the earring wire to the main crystal. They would look good as a pendent though.
These crystals are for my neice's wedding party. The crystal is heliotrope and is absolutely gorgeous. I love the crystals!!!

Hi! I've been away, been busy and having fun! I went to my sisters for a bit, and went camping and now I'm home for a bit before the long weekend and more camping! Pictures of the BFAC project.

Sometimes you get to a point in the project where you just want to hurry up and finish so you can move on to the next thing. I'm at that with this project. I'm looking forward to the next part - working on the skirt of it (which you haven't seen yet) but I have to do the hair. Despite the generous contributions from a couple of other beaders, I still don't have enough white beads to finish the hair so I'm going to use the gold beads that I added to this BFAC project. My goal is to have this project finished before I go away on holiday. I'll mail it when I get back.

In other news, I'm looking forward to working on this project!

This is Nanabush. Nanabush is a mythical creature in Aboriginal legends. He has different names and creates messages, and mischief and sometimes angst for his people. I read about him first in a play written by a Canadian Playwright. The Play is called "The Rez Sisters" and the writer is Thompson Highway.
I bought this form when I was up at Bon Echo Provincial Park. I saw it a year ago and then this year I bought it with the intention of beading it. I don't know yet what will go on it - Nanabush often took different forms, including that of the crow. He is also known as the trickster but this particular form is from a picture that is painted on the rocks at Bon Echo - a petroglyph. They don't know how old it is and it's not very accessible. It's painted on a sheer rock face above the water and they have a telescope set up to see it at the park. I think this doll will ecompass lots of different elements, different types of beads and lots of texture. I made the face yesterday.

These are some of my most favourite beads! They are tiny little flowers and the local supplier for one of my local bead stores is discontinuing them. When I found that out, I had to buy up what I could afford! I love these beads, they are great in fringe, great used as a sequin type, can be used in as spacers in jewellery! They make great coral beads or neat moss. Nanabush will definitely have some!
So each bag is 600 each and hopefully they will last me for a bit.

Beading Projects

Hello! Hello!!
So, as you can see, I've been beading, not blogging!!!
The first two pictures are my July page, started but not finished. I'm having a lot of fun with it and have a few neat ideas to try out. The face was an experiment in netting and the netting is too big but I'm going to add some stuff to it and of course more beads!

I know most of you thought that the green flower picture was the June page but the leaves are too heavy and it bothered me because they ended up stretching the thread too much. I'm going to do something with that page, just not sure what yet.
In the mean time though, I've had in my minds eye for a very long time this beaders painting pallet and I really think it works for the first page of this journal. It was a lot of fun and I made the beads very bumpy and tactile, like a real pile of beads. I'm going to put a pocket on the back and add my journalling to it but I think it turned out great and the girls think it's cool too!

This is a progress picture on the Beading For a Cure doll that I am working on. It's going to take priority for the next little bit because it has to be finished to be mailed out by the end of the month. I'm really focusing on texture and layering and while parts of it I'm not happy with yet, I know that I still have lots to do and it will work itself out.

A Compliment

I want to thank everyone who has complimented me on my Through The Looking Glass Piece. I really had a lot of fun and drive to create that piece and it was really interesting to dig through my stash to find the beads that worked so amazingly well in it.

I was thinking of compliments and their importance in our lives. I was also looking at my list of blogs that I visit and the list of blogs that are on other people's blogs. I look for mine there. I don't see it that often but I was thinking that it would be a real compliment to see my blog on someone else favourite list. I was also remembering when an artist I knew re-formatted her list and took my name off her blog and the slight hurt I felt at that.
So in the next few days, I'm going to add to my list of blogs that I frequent and I'm going to update it with the blogs I go to. It's a good long list and it's a compliment to each of everyone that I look at your blogs.

I Came In Second

It's called Through The Looking Glass.

There was a challenge on Bead Art and I didn't take up the challenge right away. Inspiration hit and I worked on this project non stop for oh, a month or so until it was finished. There are all kinds of woodland creatures, moss, trees, flying fish and pigs and a cheshire cat.
I loved how the mirror in the sky looks through the mirror of the water and that they both reflect back to each other all the weird and all the wonderful.
The back of the piece is the tunnel that Alice originally fell down and as she was falling, she saw all kinds of things so there is a rooster and a pig and of course shoes.

It was really fun to do. All most all of the beads I used were mine, I didn't have to go out and buy too many beads. I had fun using beads like the racoon and the squirrel and the elephant that had been sitting in my bead stash for the last few years.

Enjoy the pictures and congradulations to Jocelyn for winning. Here is the winning piece - The Red Queen Jocelyn did a fantastic job.

Through the Looking Glass is the challenge I worked on. One of these pieces belongs to me and if you are a member of Delphi Forums, you can go to Bead Art and vote. The link for the voting doesn't seem to work - I didn't set it up so don't ask me how that all works.
Also, if the pictures don't load right away, either refresh or reload. There are some great pieces here, and it was an interesting challenge. We aren't supposed to say which piece we did, though one I do know who did three of them and then I know which one I did, so it's not top secret or anything like that!
The winner with the most votes recieves a wonderful package of beads curtsey of the moderators of Bead Art.
Now on to other projects!! I'll be posting soon! I'm working on a fringe - for a beaded art doll and the going in slow - it's easy but tedious work.

BJP Progress Report

Hello everyone!! Here is a picture of the 4x4 bjp page that I started and then abondoned. I'm glad I went with the 6x6 scheme, it allows me more room for doing a variety of things and as you can see in the next picture, I can use some great beads!!
I am beading on a quilt square - two layers of fabric with warm and natural batting in between. I hope to learn how to bind them very soon and in the mean time, I put together the 6x6 square as a pillow type flip. I like to bury my threads in the batting and leave the back empty of threads and stitches but I am going to be trying different techniques that also mean quilting the material as I go along. This adds an interesting dimension to the whole piece.

This is the start of my 6x6 June piece. It is a work in progress and I am actually finding it kinda boring. I didn't challenge myself at all but I love those huge green dagger beads and really wanted to use them. The blue beads in the center are lentils and they pile up on each other really nicely. I love the green beads for the stem - one of my favour beads!
I have other plans for this square, so I'm not going to dump it. Actually I want to incorporate journalling into this project and the plan is to put pockets for tags on the back. I'm going to sew the 4x4 patch that I made onto the back of this one to hold the journal tag. Then I'm going bead around it too.
I plan on adding some neat fringes etc to this piece. My hope for other pieces is to expand my fabric painting, stamping etc. I also plan on linking these together as a wall hanging - but I think I've mentioned that before.

In other news.... GO SENS GO!!!!!! Our cat Snow gets into the cheering with a little pompom action! The game was great and the Ottawa Sens Rock!!!!

Here I am fooling around on the computer and click on my own blog and read the current post and then the one before it where I mention the same things! I had completely forgotten that I had posted about the BJP or the secret project! Wow! I should really read what I have written and maybe, oh yes, just maybe keep a little better track of things here! Too funny!
Here is one more picture I wanted to add. Ottawa hosted a scrapbooking show yesterday and I had a chance to run in there. I was so very happy to get my hands on these dabbers - I could't previously get them here! Now the radiant rains I also picked up and found that my local store has just started to carry them. The stores here are a little slow to stock the new stuff. And with me being on the internet way too much, I hear about these neat product and want to try them out. So here I go!!!

A busy weekend

Hi all. I have an art room. I love it down there but I don't bead there. I have tried but I can bead for hours and then I've gotten myself away from the family too much. So here is the family room and my corner of the couch where I bead. I do a lot of work here and my family put up with it! Here is a good picture of Springer, who was so curious about what I was doing - but more because I was in the kitchen and he was hopeful!

In other news, I have cut the material for several of my Beaded Journal Project. I had tried a 4x4 variety, but that was really too small so I have upgraded to 6x6. These are some of the materials I want to work with, the first one being the lime green with the swirls. It's such a great spring colour!
The BJP is a new project started by Robin Atkins and I am so happy to be part of it! If you want to join, you need only visit Robin's blog, read the rules and sign up before the end of May.

These last two pictures are of a 4x4 page that I made for a monthly swap. I love doing mixed media and I rarely show what I have made on this blog - mostly because I just don't take pictures of it! So I thought I would, just to show you all a bit more of what I do.

One more thing. I am working a project that has been inspired by a topic over on Bead Art on Delphi Forums. It's called "Through the Looking Glass." I can't show you pictures because it is going to a vote but as soon as that is all done, I'll post pictures of it. It has been a fun and unique project that has enabled me to raid my stash of beads and use some of the more unique ones! I'm really happy with the way it has turned out - it is almost finished. Then I'll take pictures, enter it in the contest and when the contest is over, I'll post pictures.

A Few Odd's and Ends

Hi All,
I am working on a secret project. I belong to Bead Art at Delphi forums and we are having a competition with "Through the Looking Glass" as the theme. Now the thing is, I got inspired to participate rather late in the day - or month and when I finally did have an "ahahaha" moment, I have had to scramble to create. Not that there's anything wrong with that. It is the reason why you haven't seen any art work though.

On another front, I have decided to join The 2007 Bead Journal Project that Robin Atkins has started. It will be fun, and inspiring and hopefully a real learning experience for me. Go to here blog if you want more information. Sign-ups go until the end of May.

Here are a couple of pictures from mothers day. We went to the Ottawa Tulip Festival - something we always do for mother's day. I love the tulip festival, it has such a great feel to it and yesterday was such a wonderful day weather wise!

Here is picture of me and my girls that Drew took yesterday. I'm the redhead. Claire is the one in the red sweatshirt but Emerald has her back to you - Haley with her arm up. The Asian lady isn't part of my family.

Did you know that Parliment Hill in Ottawa has a cattery? It's a house for cats and these cats live outside all year long. Look how well taken care of they are! We have been up there in the winter time and these cats have the thickest coats! It's very cool, very old fashioned and kinda sweet - the kids love to visit the cats!

Also here is a picture of our beautiful provincial flower - the trillium! This was a wonderful little bike ride with the girls.

I'll keep you posted with some stitching I've been doing for a round robin and a few other art projects I'm involved in!

I just finished this book this morning. I belong to a bookclub that includes some pretty wonderful women and one of them picked this book months ago. For a variety of reasons we didn't all read it until now. We are going to discuss it this week and I have to say that I really didn't want to read it.
It's about World War One and goes into amazing detail around trench warfare and what the men faced during that war.
But it's so much more than that. I was at about page 52 when I told my friend that I just didn't want to read anymore. But I would read till page 100. If it wasn't for reading this book for bookclub, I would have stopped at page 52. I'm so glad that I didn't!!!
The characters are amazing and the progress of the story is fantastic. It is done in a way that is respectful and honest and compelling. I'm glad I was pushed to read the book and that is exactly what book clubs do. They introduce you to places in the world you don't expect to go and while sometimes it does feel uncomfortable, getting out of our comfort zones is so worth it!
So have a go at this book and if you feel that you can't, read to page 100 and let the story carry you to the end.

I think it is such a cool thing and I haven't found a place in the blog settings etc. where this can be done. Hands to Work, Heart to God

This project has been around for a long while. It was in response to the hands to work, heart to God prayer that has been going on in my mind. It was present in my mind for a long time so I traced my hand and then beaded it. I must admit that there is another influence here.
Marya of Bead Art has created some wonderful artwork and has made hands in three dimensional form whereas mine is flat.
Celticat This is the link to her work. She is a great bead artist and has started to make glass beads too.
The Bead Art forum on Delphi is also a big influence in my bead art. I love the women there and their inspiration. They have taught me so much and I have had an incredible time learning this amazing art form!

Hi All,
The exams are done, the house is clean and I've done something I've been wanting to do - no not that - I've done that already!!!
No, what I wanted to do was try felting! So I did! After my last exam on Thursday last week, I went to the art store, and Ikea and the wool shop. I had a blast poking around and looking at all the fun ways I can play!
I picked up a blue wool and used the roving I already had and played with it. Here are the pictures of my endeavors. If I ever

Some of the pictures are double - sorry about that.
It all shows how I knitted the piece, washed it and felted it, then cut out a star - which was supposed be more flower looking. Then I got the needles out and started poking away.
Interesting thing about the needles. I could have bought a gadget that the a different type of needle sits in. I think there are six needles in the holder. This gadget was about 25.00. Instead I picked up these needles that were four 7bucks. You can use more than one at a time or just use the one for specific work - more details. I like the idea of the needles - cheaper and easy to use.
I only poked my finger once and man they are sharp!
So I'm working on a few other things which I'll show you real soon! And I teach beading in the next few weeks if the class goes!
Oh! And I planted Pansies!!!!!!

This brooch is going to a friend. It's a long overdue project, and there is one more brooch to finish and send off. That one will only take one evening to finish, then I'll put it in the post.
Still not sure of the matte face here, but it does look good with the bead mix. And the pearls - perhaps a little hard to see in the picture.

When I was studying, I did this on the off time - cause it was easy to do and I love those triangles! I want to do it again, not sure what I'll use next time, I love herringbone and I love the triangles! I also have 8's that would look awesome!

I HOPE YOU HAVE A GREAT, WONDERFUL DAY!!!!!!

We had a relaxing day yesterday with a nice dinner. Tonight I am at school so the kids will have to make dinner for their Dad and give him his gifts. Should be fun for them to make it special. We'll back a cake today too and have some fun with that. It's March Break here in Ontario, so the kids are home all week. And we will have our share of kid friends here too!

We got an extension on our paper. I'll be able to play a bit more with the kids over march break. This is good for me cause I'm thinking some of my research articles may not fit and I'll have to find some new ones. Such is the life of a student.
The first picture is just because. The second picture is to remind me that somewhere under all the paper work and reading is a bead artist itching to get back to beading!!!

A YELLOW Dragon Lies Beneath!

My inner dragon is the most interesting of all. Not only am I the Air Elemental dragon, but I am the fourth rarest type of dragon in the world. I'll have to try again another day. I suspect my inner dragon is different depending on how many human's I've eaten. Then again, depending on how many crystals I've managed to stick to my stomach, I may prefer to go out raiding for shiny sparkling goodies!!!
Or I may want to be the wise dragon who is imperious to others but will deign to dispense wisdom when I'm well fed and content.

Let's see how I do - watch for updates!! I'm looking forward to a week off - oh wait, I'm a Mom, so no week off. How bout I'm looking forward to staying in my pj's, crawling back into bed and reading trashy mind candy. Oh wait - three assignments do as soon as I get back and two major essay's shortly after. Ahhh, well, at least I don't have to go outside! Oh wait - the dog needs a walk, the groceries need gathering and at the very least, I should reach for the mail!!!
Hmmmmm.....You can bet I'll be napping!!! That's definitely one of my favourite activities! Nothing beats a nap at one in the afternoon!

I've been thinking. Some would say that's dangerous, but I did it anyway. I was thinking about my art and how many people I know on the internet that nobody knows about at home. My family knows that I participate in groups but they don't know names or interests or who goes with what art project I'm on. They know I have fun with the art and that it's important to me (hence the art room they take over all the time!) but they don't know that I admire Heather's constant stretching of her boundaries or Sharonb is an amazing stitcher and doesn't even know that I read her on a regular basis. I read so many different blogs that inspire me and keep me motivated! I love the yahoo groups that I'm involved in - and love the contact I have with these fellow artists. The family isn't aware of the names of the people that are involved in my beaded art doll group that has been going for too long but with any luck and a lot of positive pressure, will be finished before too long.
I've been reading about inchies and white books and samplers and charms! They aren't aware that I'm the proud owner of some amazing artwork from people all over the world and that hopefully some people are happy with what I've sent on too.

To all the people who I owe work to, I haven't forgotten. I am working on them and I am getting to it all so please have faith. I am doing more school work than I have done to date - 3 classes, 3 kids, 3 pets - 3 a good number! So please be patient and thanks for that!
